MG HS PHEV Gets a Charging Upgrade That Actually Makes a Difference

Good news for MG HS PHEV owners in Pakistan: MG has rolled out a meaningful upgrade that addresses one of the biggest pain points—charging time. The plug-in hybrid SUV will now come with a 7KW fast charger, replacing the slower portable charger it originally shipped with.

The HS PHEV has been on Pakistani roads since October 2024, and production started locally in early 2025. Since then, over 500 units have been delivered—a solid start for a relatively new entry in the hybrid market. Owners have generally praised the SUV for its clean design, smooth drive, and greener performance. But one thing kept popping up in feedback: the standard charger took too long—up to 8.5 hours for a full charge.

Listening to users, MG has now taken action. The new 7KW fast charger cuts down charging time significantly, making it easier for people who rely on the car for daily city commutes or just don’t want to worry about leaving the car plugged in overnight.

Syed Asif Ahmed, MG Pakistan’s GM of Marketing, said the move is part of a broader push to improve how people experience electric and hybrid vehicles. “This isn’t just a feature update—it’s about making ownership simpler and more practical.”

What’s worth noting is that MG isn’t charging extra for the upgrade. The fast charger, which has a market value of around PKR 235,000, will now come standard with the HS PHEV. The previous portable charger, while still available, has been shifted to the accessories section.

With a pure electric driving range of over 50 km, strong safety features, and tech upgrades, the MG HS PHEV continues to make a case for hybrid driving in Pakistan. And with this latest change, it becomes a more convenient option for people ready to shift toward smarter, cleaner urban mobility.
