Ride-hailing platform inDrive has recorded a massive 4x increase in intercity ride bookings over the past year, fueled by growing demand for flexible, affordable travel across Pakistan.
The company’s City-to-City service, which allows drivers and passengers to negotiate fares directly, is now widely used on major routes including Lahore–Islamabad, Lahore–Gujranwala, Karachi–Hyderabad, and smaller cities like Sheikhupura, Kasur, Mardan, and Okara.
The surge has been especially strong during the summer holidays. Bookings to tourist destinations like Murree rose by 75% between April and June, with weekends seeing the highest traffic—particularly from Friday to Sunday, when travel plans peak.
Drivers Are Cashing In on the Boom
The service has also become a lucrative source of income for many drivers. On popular routes like Lahore to Islamabad, some top earners are taking home PKR 300,000 to 350,000 per month after expenses.
“The rapid growth in our City-to-City rides reflects a shift in how people move and earn in Pakistan,” said Awais Saeed, Country Head at inDrive Pakistan. “We’re giving passengers more control and giving drivers the chance to earn well above the market average.”
Passengers Carpool, Drivers Maximize Earnings
Passengers are also making the most of carpooling options built into the inDrive app—splitting fares with friends or other riders while enjoying door-to-door service, unlike traditional bus or van routes.
Drivers, meanwhile, benefit from smart matching algorithms that recommend up to four passengers per trip. This not only helps fill seats but also boosts driver income with fewer empty miles. Priority is also given to drivers already on certain routes, helping them secure more bookings effortlessly.
Flexible Work, Fair Pricing
City-to-city drivers typically complete 2 to 4 rides per day, depending on the length of the route. With inDrive’s peer-to-peer pricing model, both drivers and passengers have the freedom to negotiate rates, offering flexibility that’s rare in traditional ride-hailing or transport systems.
Empowering Mobility with Purpose
More than just numbers, inDrive says the service supports its mission of economic empowerment. With low entry barriers, transparent pricing, and freedom of choice, the platform is helping thousands across Pakistan—whether they’re earning a full-time living or supplementing their income on their own terms.
